Fresh Air, Full Baskets, Happy Hearts
Welcome to The Lazy Hoe Farm, where the rows are full, the baskets are empty (for now), and the only thing standing between you and the freshest veggies you’ve ever tasted is a short stroll through the field. Nestled in Cameron, NC, our you-pick farm invites you to grab a basket, wander at your own pace, and harvest your own colorful lineup of seasonal vegetables—no green thumb required. Whether you’re chasing the perfect tomato, hunting for crisp peppers, or just looking for a fun, down-to-earth outing, you’ll find dirt-under-your-fingernails satisfaction and a whole lot of “wow, I grew this!” moments. Come for the veggies, stay for the experience, and leave with a basket full of goodness (and maybe a story or two). 🌱
Meet the Folks Behind The Lazy Hoe Farm
Laura Scott and Emory Carter traded city life for country roots in 2016, leaving Tampa, Florida behind to settle in Cameron, North Carolina—closer to family and in pursuit of a simpler, more meaningful way of living. What they found was more than just land…it was a lifestyle.
Emory, a proud Army veteran with 24 years of service, now channels that same dedication and work ethic into farming. These days, instead of deployments, you’ll find him tending rows of vegetables, watching the weather like a hawk, and making sure everything growing at The Lazy Hoe Farm is something he’d be proud to put on his own table.
Laura brings her own creative spirit to the farm after a 22-year career in the mortgage industry. Now a resin artist, she adds a touch of artistry and charm to farm life—proving that growing things and creating things go hand in hand.
Together, they’ve built The Lazy Hoe Farm as a place where people can slow down, get their hands a little dirty, and reconnect with where their food comes from. Around here, it’s not just about picking vegetables—it’s about sharing a piece of the life they fell in love with. 🌱
Frequently Asked Questions
-
The plants are currently hard at work becoming delicious. We’ll let you know when they clock in as ‘ready.’
We announce Pick dates only a few days in advance. We do our best to estimate the right number of pickers for the produce ready to be picked. You must book a spot to come and pick.
Stay tuned to our homepage, Facebook, and Instagram where we announce the next pick date and what’s ready to pick. Also, you must book your spot through our ticketing system. You cannot book a spot through email or social media messages.
-
We use a reservation system to schedule Pick days for several reasons. We want to limit the number of people picking per day and per hour to make sure we have plenty of produce for you to pick from. This also helps us reduce back log during checkout and ensures everyone receives personal attention from us.
Picks are scheduled in three 1-hour time slots and always take place in the morning with the first time slot at 8:00 am. You choose your time to arrive and must be checked out thirty minutes after the last time slot closes. For example, scheduled times are at 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 am. If you book an 9:00 time slot, you can arrive anytime between 9:00-10:00 and must check out by 11:30 am.
Admission:
It’s $2 plus tax per person to enter the farm during your scheduled time slot, whether one person picks or all are picking.
Admission must be booked in advance on the website for the time slot you wish to visit, you cannot come to the farm without having booked in advance. Book one admission for each person in your party, excluding babies under the age of 1. Please do not book groups larger than 4 people. Your admission fees will not be refunded if you no-show, if you email to cancel your spots later than 5:00 pm the day before the pick, or if you bring fewer people with you.
When you arrive, you’ll check in by name. We’ll give you a basket and scissors, review the farm rules, and we'll talk about what's good for the pickin' that day and how to do it. Then, you can head into the rows to make magical memories harvesting beautiful fresh produce with your family. There will be signs in the rows to tell you what’s what and how to pick it.
When you're done, go to the checkout location at the Green Building, tag us in a selfie with your haul of veggies, and we'll weigh the crops and total it up.
-
If you can’t book a time slot, then they have not been made available yet, are sold out, or no picks are scheduled.
-
If it’s not during a scheduled pick, we are closed! Please do not drop by, as we do not permit walk-ins. When we’re closed to visitors, we’re working on our plant babies and farm duties.
-
We cannot guarantee the availability of any produce on any given day. If you must have guaranteed availability and quantities of specific items, head on over to Harris Teeter, friend - a local farm is not for you. We grow about a dozen kinds of vegetables that vary in availability based on the season, weather, and how many people have picked from them before you.
-
Time slots are only released a couple of days before each pick. You cannot book a spot further in advance, because we cannot predict how much will be ready to pick more than a couple days in advance.
-
There is no need to get here early! If you’ve booked a spot, you’re getting access to the field at the same time as everyone else. The parking lot does not open until 15 minutes before the first time slot, and we will not start picking before the first time slot begins. Plan to arrive at the beginning of your time slot so you have a whole hour to pick. Last check out is thirty minutes after the last time slot ends and that is when we close, so being on time is especially important if you’ve booked the last time slot of the day. description

Yes—we gladly accept credit cards, but processing fees do take a bite, so cash is always appreciated!
-
A cloth or washable bag are great to take your veggies home.
A hat and closed-toed shoes are ideal attire. We wear long sleeves and pants even in the summer, so bring sunscreen if you need it. If it rained the day before, boots are a good idea. While we do not generally have chiggers, bug spray is always a good idea.
-
Yes, absolutely. We do NOT use synthetic pesticides, so you are definitely going to see a few bugs, many of whom are beneficial!
-
Sorry but for food safety, no doggos are allowed at the farm.
-
We have a Port-a-Potty that is serviced weekly.
-
We stay open for sprinkles, but not for thunder and lightning. If the weather is looking bad, we’ll post a cancellation on social media and you’ll receive an email or text canceling the pick. We will not make the decision to cancel any earlier than the morning of the pick. You just can’t trust the weatherman!
-
Yes, you can but keep in mind that we are a two-person operation at The Lazy Hoe Farm so no one is standing by the phone or computer! If we don’t respond quickly, we are busy planting, mowing, trellising, fertilizing, weeding, pruning, mulching, shoveling, spreading, inspecting crops, applying pest and disease control, scheduling picks, updating the website and social media, and washing baskets.

Yes, there are bugs.
They live here. They work here. Some of them are probably management 🐞
Follow posted signs and staff directions.
We promise we’re not bossy—just trying to keep everything growing and flowing.
Don’t snack now, pay later.
We see you, tomato tasters 👀 Everything gets weighed first!

If they’re not working, they’re not coming 😄
11:00 AM = doors closed, y’all.
